The Most Recognized Children’s Book Guide, Podcast, and K-12 Reading Source

Arithme-tickle by J. Patrick Lewis

The author writes delightful poems that will quickly engage your 1st-3rd grader will mental math problems about roosters, Neil Armstrong, horses and poodles. The illustrations are very cute and the problems are just challenging enough to keep children interested. Most likely  a reader would pick up this book and do a few of the problems and then pick up up the next day and do a few more. The answers and how to find them are at the bottom of the poem but written mirror-image style making it a little harder to cheat. I wish the answers were in the back because I can see how kids would get tempted to check their work as they go and then just look at the answers. The language in the poems is funny and quirky and the book definitely puts a happy spin on your everyday word problem!
