History of the Bookmobiles

While the focus on this article is on libraries that are are motorized and on wheels, it should be noted that in a historical and global context, traveling libraries have been on horses, camels, wagons, and even on foot.

The concept of a library for the general public generally coincides with the idea of a bookmobile.  Prior to public libraries since the time books where first published their were private libraries in peoples homes, in religious insitutions, private universities and in library societies.
